Sorry, My Younger Self

I would like to apologize to my younger self

I would like to apologize to my younger self for not letting her know that I am so proud of her for putting her effort and heart into her passions. I would like to apologize to my younger self for not taking into account all of her great attributes which are not related to academic and professional achievements. I would like to apologize to my younger self for not allowing her to take breaks when she needed them.

Because my older self is now paying the taxes of not taking enough self-care. I did not know healing my wounds cost this much — emotionally, mentally, physically, and financially.

But when I think about my ancestors’ untreated pain due to intergenerational trauma, probably I am doing the right thing to take time to do this healing on their behalf as well. Because trauma might not be our fault, but healing from it is our responsibility — us, the descendants.

Sometimes, self-care can look like treating ourselves like a baby or a child.

It is always fun to try those activities we might have enjoyed when we were younger. Adulthood made us forget how art can bring us so much joy in our lives. We genuinely enjoyed it for the sake of creating the art itself. Can we just run away from constant evaluation and competition?

Why can’t we just allow ourselves to slow down for a moment for deeper connection and quality time with ourselves?
